Update - March 9, 2025: Printables has now updated the Orca Slicer download link to the official project website, orcaslicer.com.
Sometime recently, Prusa Research’s Printables 3D model repository discreetly updated to allow models to be opened in Orca Slicer, much like they already could be in PrusaSlicer – which the former is based on. This week, a post on Reddit pointed out that integration has been linking to an unofficial Orca Slicer website for downloads, which the slicer’s developer, SoftFever, has warned may be malicious and is flagged by uBlock Origin.
The integration itself is a great example of Prusa support for open-source tools, and could be a sign of more to come following Prusa’s launch of Printable’s EasyPrint cloud-slicing service, which is currently running as a closed beta. (In its announcement blog, Prusa teased that “we plan to open [EasyPrint] to even non-Prusa 3D printer users in the future”.)
As part of Printable’s instant import features, the incorrect URL is present on every model in the repository. It appears to have been an issue since the feature’s launch, seemingly sometime last month, with earlier Prusa Research forum posts also calling out the incorrect URL last week. Reddit user Tree_is_warm, who made the posts, says they tried to bring Prusa’s attention to the issue two weeks ago via its general email but received no reply – some speculation in the comments suggests these warnings may have been screened because of the same potentially malicious link.
The only official download locations for Orca Slicer are the software’s GitHub, Discord channel, and recently launched website orcaslicer.com.
