Prusa Research has announced and launched the Original Prusa MK4S 3D printer today, along with an upgrade kit for the MK4 that converts it into the machine’s latest model.

Chief among the MK4S’s new features is a default CHT-style high-flow nozzle made in collaboration with Bondtech. There’s also a 360º wraparound fan vent, which Prusa says enables overhangs up to 75° without supports.

Together, both features work to boost print speed – it’s “twice as fast as the MK3S+”, the company says in press materials – while preserving accuracy and print quality. Prusa claims those speeds should allow the MK4S to print a Benchy in eight minutes if using “fast draft” mode, and a still-relatively-speedy 14 minutes under regular print settings.

The MK4S also boasts new injection-molded parts – such as the printer’s LCD cover –as well as those printed with Prusament PC Blend Carbon Fiber (rather than PETG). While certain parts will still be printed in PETG, the result should be a more robust machine overall.

Newly added accelerometer support and a new optional GPIO board, which offers eight inputs, eight outputs, and is controllable by G-code, should make machine modders happy.

Finally, launching alongside the printer is a native Prusa app, which offers “dozens of new features”, including G-code streaming, scheduled print start, and an NFC-enabled Wi-Fi setup function that allows users to simply tap their phones against the MK4S’s NFC module to connect.

The Original Prusa MK4S is now available at the same MSRP as the MK4: $1,099 for a fully assembled model and $799 for a DIY kit. The upgrade kit for the MK4 is priced at $99.
