Prusa Research has launched a line of third-party 3D printing accessories and materials under the name Buddy3D.

Buddy3D’s offerings will focus on new products that Prusa does not have the capacity to produce. There are 46 new filaments in various colors and materials, for example, including ABS ESD and PETG MATT, with prices starting at $21.90.

While Prusa describes these materials as the “best alternative” to its in-house line of Prusament filaments, it does make clear that nothing under the Buddy3D label should be considered a budget or lesser product. All Buddy3D filaments are manufactured in the EU, and users can expect the same quality and performance as Prusament products.

Also available at Buddy3D’s launch is the $39.99 webcam-like Buddy3D Camera, which runs on custom firmware and allows users to wirelessly monitor prints with Prusa Connect or the Prusa app. It arrives with infrared functionality for dark environments, and can be placed inside a printer’s enclosure, so long as temperatures do not exceed 65 °C. Unlike Buddy3D filaments, the camera is manufactured in China, although it is produced by a Czech company.

Prusa ends the announcement – which you can read in full on its blog – with the promise of additional Buddy3D products on the horizon. No word on what those will be (or when they will be released), so be sure to check in on Prusa’s website from time to time for updates on that front.
