To commemorate American rapper and community activist Nipsey Hussle, who was killed in March, Charlamagne tha God commissioned a 3D printed pendant to gift to Lauren London, Hussle’s longtime partner.

Hussle was shot outside his store in Los Angeles on March 31st. Celebrities have been celebrating his memory over the past month and an LA intersection is being named after the rapper.

American radio presenter Charlamagne tha God enlisted the help of Greg Yuna, the renowned jeweler, to create a pendant of Hussle’s side-profile to remind London of her late partner.

Yuna told Hypebeast: “I originally wanted to make a tribute piece regardless of being approached, but to make one with this purpose was even more fulfilling.”

To create the pendant, Yuna used 3D printing. The resulting print was cast in 18-carat gold and hand-finished. It also includes details such as Hussle’s tattoos, individually carved beard hairs and a full-cut diamond in his ear.

On the back of the pendant are the words “God Will Rise”. Yuna shared a behind-the-scenes clip of his work on Instagram:

3D Printed Pendant Commemorates Nipsey Hussle

Yuna explains that the first step of creating the pendant was to find a picture of Hussle which was iconic and suitable for the 3D printing process.

He explains the next steps in the process saying: “Then we make a CAD and spend tedious endless hours on the computer trying to get as much detail as possible in so we can print it on a state of the art 3D printing machine.”

After the print was cast in gold, Yuna used a laser to add Hussle’s tattoos and added the finishing touch of a hand-selected full cut diamond.

“The paisley on the back was a symbolic depiction of his roots and a lot of what he represented,” Yuna adds, “‘God will rise’ is what his name means and I think that says it all.”
