Raspberry Pi has released a slate of AI offerings in the past months: the AI Kit, AI Camera, and most recently the AI HAT+.

All of the devices relate to one another, but are anchored by the AI HAT+, which was released last week.

The AI HAT+ leverages Hailo AI accelerator tech, and comes in 13 TOPS (the same as in the AI Kit) and 26 TOPS variants. They are priced at $70 and $110, respectively.

By directly integrating the Hailo accelerator chips into the PCB, the AI HAT+ performs AI processes more efficiently and effectively. The 26 TOPS version, in particular, is capable of running multiple AI-related operations simultaneously: Raspberry Pi mentions “object detection, pose estimation, and subject segmentation … on a live camera feed” as an example here.

The device expands on the $70 AI Kit, which was released in June. However, Raspberry Pi recommends new users purchase the AI HAT+ instead, as it offers expanded and more advanced capabilities.

Both the AI Kit and the AI HAT+ are compatible with the Raspberry Pi’s AI Camera, which was released in September and is compatible with all models of Raspberry Pi. It’s optimized for computer vision applications – think facial recognition or object detection – and uses a 12 MP Sony IMX500 Intelligent Vision Sensor an an Integrated RP2040 microcontroller. It’s priced at $70.
