While the DIY kit is on "pause", a new version of the machine has been open-sourced, with CAD files, STLs, other documentation available on Rat Rig's website.

Rat Rig has discontinued the V-Minion cantilever 3D printer, which had been sold as a DIY kit. The company attributes the move to supply chain and production challenges, especially when compared to the machine’s relatively small user base.

It’s unclear whether this discontinuation is temporary or permanent. A Facebook post from earlier this week says it’s “for the time being”, but the move to open-source the printer’s next version – the V-Minion 1.1 – seems to suggest otherwise. You can find all CAD files, STLs, and additional documentation for that machine on Rat Rig’s website.

Those who choose to upgrade can also take advantage of an interesting freebie: custom toolheads originally for the announced-yet-unreleased V-Minion Toolhead. Rather than sell them, Rat Rig is practically giving them away (they cost $0.10 each).

We’d suggest those interested act quickly; we expect stock is limited.
