Maxon has announced a major update to ZBrush, bringing with it a slew of new sculpting tools, native Apple silicon support, and integration with Redshift rendering software.

With the integration, ZBrush “delivers new and exciting workflows to render high-quality images with subsurface scattering and emissive light generation,” according to a recent press release. It also supports standard, MatCap, and Redshift materials that enable designers to achieve increased realism when creating metal surfaces and caustics for glass.

“The integration of Redshift into ZBrush brings artists a level of power and flexibility that was previously unimaginable. This is a major milestone for Maxon and achieves our goal of making Redshift accessible to all artists and creators,” said David McGavran, CEO of Maxon, in a press release. “This update also brings with it a host of new features and workflows that will help artists push the boundaries of their creativity and bring their visions to life.”

The update also brings with it new sculpting tools for ZBrush, including “slime bridges” that can connect complex models, improvements to retopology, and native support for M1 and M2 Macs. Subscribers to Maxon’s “Maxon One” software bundle are able to choose between GPU and CPU rendering, with regular subscribers limited to CPU rendering only.
