LightBurn, one of the most ubiquitous software packages for running laser cutting and engraving machines, has received a minor update with new galvo, warp, and deform features that should make rotary work easier.

The new 1.4.00 release – announced the last week of April – brings the usual string of bug fixes and minor updates like support for imperial measurements in the slot resizer tool, and easier closed shapes with the line tool.

The update also includes notable feature additions such as the ability to repeat markings on galvo lasers, allowing the software to control an external linear or rotary axis to run a job multiple times in a row while advancing the workpiece for you automatically, making it easy to run batches of items.

For those who do rotary work on tapered objects such as metal cups or baseball bats, or are looking for a way to bend or deform generic shapes, the new warp and deform tools should make life much easier by offering far more control over the way an image is stretched, distorted, and wrapped around objects.

Warp is a simple four-point envelope warp, linearly stretching your graphics within a control rectangle. Deform is more complex, allowing a 16-point deformation using Bezier splines to curve, stretch, or compress shapes in more organic ways.

You can find a complete list of release notes and additional information about these new tools and additions to the system on the LightBurn website.

LightBurn 1.4.00 is available to purchase or test on a free trial for Windows, Mac, and Linux. But first, be sure to check if your machine’s controller is compatible.
