Sainsmart has opened preorders for the Genmitsu Cubiko, an enclosed desktop CNC machine targeting entry-level users.

The Cubiko’s 150 x 110 x 40 mm work area places it on the smaller end of the desktop CNC spectrum, but the machine nevertheless offers functionalities like carving and milling – here, with a height map auto-leveling feature, Sainsmart specifically mentions PCB milling – as well as optional laser, drawing, and polishing module kits.

Features like auto stop and auto Z-probe focus on safety and accuracy, while a steel “internal structure” aims to reduce vibrations and improve durability. The Cubiko arrives fully assembled.

Once released, it will retail for $500, which is comparable to the Genmitsu 3020-Pro Max V2, a larger machine that goes for $499 and has a seemingly sturdier build – although it lacks an enclosure and some of the user-friendly bells and whistles the Cubiko offers.

A Kickstarter launch for the Cubiko is planned to run from February through March, although it’s not readily apparent when the first machines will start shipping. Place a preorder now, however, and you can snag a Cubiko for just $249. For more, check out the machine’s product page on the Sainsmart website.
