Simplify3D has announced the immediate release of version 5.0 of its paid slicing software, boasting “a next-generation slicing engine, integrated print optimizations, and a feature-packed user interface for improved efficiency and intuitive operation.”

Front and center is a streamlined user interface with integrated toolbars, customizable keyboard shortcuts, advanced zoom and rotation controls, 3D mouse support, support for Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections for remote printing, and more.

Under the hood is a new slicing engine that provides “unprecedented performance improvements, up to three times faster than Simplify3D V4.” Common mesh errors are automatically repaired during processing, targeting capabilities enable users to apply customized tweaks to certain parts of a model, and a streamlined interface offers better control and oversight of print settings.

Rounding the update off are automated optimizations that analyze prints layer by layer, utilizing adaptive layer height, automated seam hiding, and dynamic infill density, “enabling new levels of quality, strength, and durability.”

“We redesigned every major system in the software to ensure it was optimized and ready to deliver the most important capabilities for our customers. This ground-up approach allowed us to achieve major software breakthroughs and establish a cutting-edge foundation for the future,” Clayton Webster, CEO of Simplify3D, said in a press release.

Although the free versions of popular slicing software such as Ultimaker Cura and PrusaSlicer make paid options increasingly difficult to justify, the sheer number of positive changes in Simplify3D 5.0 seems to warrant at least a look. Existing users can upgrade for an unspecified discounted price by logging in to their Simplify3D account and following the upgrade path. New users can drop $199 for a perpetual license of Simplify3D V5.0 on the Simplify3D website. It seems that purchases of the previous release, V4.1, in the last 12 months will automatically upgrade for free.
