It’s been a long road, but just yesterday Prusa Research announced the single-toolhead Original Prusa XL CoreXY 3D printers will begin shipping in March.

With the announcement, Prusa unveiled a host of recent improvements to the system; the most interesting of which may be that the printer will ship with a 0.6 mm nozzle by default. The larger nozzle size seems perfectly suitable for the 360 x 360 x 360 mm XL printer, but the company also mentioned that V6-style nozzles will be compatible with the XL’s unique nozzle system (an E3D collaboration) via an adaptor. So, no need to toss out your existing supply.

Other updates include a stiffened X-axis, a side panel better suited to quietly handle the printer’s vibrations, an optimized print bed, and a Wi-Fi antenna to ensure excellent connectivity.

Though the company said that it’s still waiting for some parts, it appears to be confident in March shipping and says self-assembly XL orders are already being put together without the missing parts. The announcement was accompanied by an apology for repeated delays, during which the company took some of the blame itself.

“The current state of the market and the extremely long lead times in parts around the world is making things really hard, but we can’t blame all the delays on it,” said Josef Průša, CEO of Prusa Research. “We could have done things differently and we are sorry to keep you waiting and keep moving the start of the shipping.”

Toolchanger beta testing is forthcoming, Prusa Research says, with a later release date planned for multi-toolhead systems once the testing is complete.
