Self-billed as a “3D printer that also post-processes resin [and] SLA prints, all in the same machine,” the SLAminator may have a funny name – but what it promises is anything but.
Not yet fully backed – and with a campaign page that’s big on flash but low on detail – Swedish mechanical engineer Rasmus Jansson aims to use the SLAminator to “make resin/SLA 3D printing as easy as FDM 3D printing by automating the post-processing step.”
At the time of writing, the campaign has raised a little under a third of its ~$23,000 (250,000 Swedish krona) goal. Super early bird backers can pledge ~$900 for the first machines, refreshingly flagged as beta units by Jansson.
Scant detail is given of the machine’s specs and abilities, but images and videos of the SLAminator show an LCD-based resin 3D printer unit besides a part collection bucket and combined cleaning and curing chamber. Upon print completion, it appears the device will transfer the print to the post-processing section of the machine for the cleaning and curing processes before automatically dumping it, safe to handle, in a bin for collection.
It’s a lofty goal – and one we’ll be keeping a close eye on. For now, the question is whether there’s something to an automated all-in-one desktop, such as the SLAminator, or if it’s simply overkill. Head to the SLAminator project page to check it out for yourself.
What do you think? Would an all-in-one resin printer like the SLAminator help you, or is it a solution looking for a problem?
