Additional Slic3r-based slicing software is now compatible with top-layer fuzzy skin 3D printing by way of a user-created script, the creator recently shared on Reddit.

The script was created by TengerTechnologies on GitHub, and is associated with the TenTech YouTube channel, who created the original fuzzy skin script for PrusaSlicer. The latest update brings the feature to Bambu Studio and Orca Slicer, with an additional version for Cura in the works.

Printing with fuzzy skin creates parts with textured, irregular surfaces, creating the appearance of “fuzz”. While it’s primarily an aesthetic feature, some applications benefit from the increased grip it provides. However, fuzzy skin can’t typically be printed atop flat surfaces (think the top side of a cube). That’s another way this update comes in.

Compatibility with overhangs, allowing “full coverage” of fuzzy-skinned parts, is coming soon, while “an idea for an implementation” of selectively applying it to surfaces is on the back burner.

In addition to the TengerTechnologies GitHub, where you can download and install the script, the fuzzy skin feature is the focus of a short but relatively deep TenTech YouTube video, which provides a bit of background, offers tips for its installation and use, and more. You’ll find it on the TenTech YouTube channel.
