Following a drip feed of information over the last few weeks, Snapmaker has finally revealed how much its new Snapmaker Artisan system will cost. The powerful 3-in-1 3D printer, CNC, and laser cutting machine will initially cost $2,799, with pre-orders for the machine opening on August 9, 2022. Once the pre-order allotment dries up, the price will grow by $200 to a full retail price of $2,999.

We asked Snapmaker to clarify how many machines will be available for the pre-order price, but no figure was given.

New tidbits of information have come to light since the first appearance of the Snapmaker Artisan, too.

For one, it turns out that the swapping of the build plates will also be a toolless process, not just the toolheads. Additionally, the Artisan will adopt some kind of Ultimaker-like print core system for its dual extrusion printing, offering easily swappable nozzle sizes and, presumably, material compatibilities. It’s said the machine will recognize any 3D printing hardware changes and suggest parameter and settings changes to suit.

The Artisan will also feature a zonal heat bed, plus a large 7-inch touchscreen control unit that introduces UI improvements over the company’s previous machines.

We also now know that the CNC toolhead is 200 W, said to offer three times the power of the CNC module of the Snapmaker 2.0. The Artisan’s CNC module will not be backward compatible with Snapmaker 2.0 machines, but both the 10 W laser module and dual extrusion 3D printing module will.

Lastly, the spiffy orange enclosure pictured all over Snapmaker’s release materials for the Artisan will come as standard.

So, less than $3,000 for a large creation station? If the new machine offers the kind of step forward from the Snapmaker 2.0 that the Snapmaker 2.0 was to the Snapmaker Original, then the Snapmaker Artisan could be stellar value for money. One to watch.
