Sunlu has launched preorders for the FilaDryer E2, a filament storage and dryer box designed for “engineered materials” like ABS and PA.

The device is large enough to hold two spools of 1 kg or 2 kg filament, or one spool of 3 kg. In addition to drying, it’s also capable of annealing, and can reach temperatures of up to 110 ℃.

Especially useful here is a range of filament presets that allow users to select the type of filament they want to dry or anneal and automatically apply the appropriate temperature and duration settings.

While the FilaDryer is built with engineering materials in mind, it’s also compatible with “conventional materials”. However, a potential issue we see is the risk of overdrying, as different materials have different moisture absorption rates and drying tolerances.

Some filaments, like PLA, can become brittle if dried for too long or at too high a temperature, which means you may need to do a bit of homework if you plan to store different types of materials together.

There’s quite a bit more detail about the annealing process – as well as filament-specific temperature settings – on the FilaDryer E2’s product page on Sunlu’s website. Early bird preorders are already sold out, but Sunlu has told All3DP that regular sale will begin in May with a $349 MSRP.
