Prusa Research has released two models on Printables that enable users to swap their Nextruder nozzles in less than a minute.
Made available earlier this month, the MK4 and XL Nozzle Replacement Tools are based on a design originally by Printables user IBNobody. The parts snap on to the heater block of Nextruders, outfitted on the Prusa MK4 and XL 3D printers, so the heater block can stay mounted when the nozzle is removed. There’s also a slightly varied version of each for hot ends that use a silicone sock.
A secure heater block means that users no longer have to hold it in place when unscrewing a nozzle, decreasing the risk of a bent nozzle tube and allowing them to work much more quickly – so quickly, in fact, that the “world record” for an MK4 nozzle change sits at 36.65 seconds, according to an X post by Prusa’s Mikoláš Zuza.
Prusa recommends printing the part in PC Blend Carbon Fiber, due to the material’s temperature-resistance, but says PETG will also work. The attachment process seems fairly easy, and is outlined in detail on the XL and MK4 Nozzle Replacement Tools’ Printables pages.
After installation, it’s time to get swapping. Think you have what it takes to become the next world record holder? Post a video of your fast swap and tag us – we want to see what you’ve got.
