Printables has announced Škoda Auto as the first official carmaker to join Printables Brands.

The Czech auto manufacturer has released 3D printable models in step with the release of its latest car, the Octavia, on the platform. Those who print the model can also enter a contest by taking an “original and creative photo” of the finished product and uploading it to the “Make” section on Printables.

A first prize winner will receive a “Škoda Octavia experience” in the Czech Republic (which Prusa refers to as a “test drive” in an X post), a Prusa MK4 3D printer, and a gift basket. Second and third place are also promised “fantastic prizes”. The rules are broad here, although Printables and Škoda do recommend “darker shades” to make the Octavia’s lines and design pop, so take that how you will. The contest’s deadline is February 28.

Škoda Auto’s onboarding to the Printables platform comes at an opportune time, given the EU’s recent provisionally strengthened right-to-repair law, which would see consumers having broader access to affordable repairs, including “3D issued” spare parts.

While the Ocatvia model isn’t a spare part, it does show increased interest in hobby 3D printing from a company outside the industry, which is certainly a good thing – and potentially a sign that the carmaker may offer more practical print files on the platform in the future.

To download a Škoda Ocatvia of your own and enter the contest, as well as to read the full rules, visit the Škoda’s brand page on Printables.
