Prusa Research has begun shipping its Original Prusa MK3.5 upgrade kits, marking the end of the Original Prusa MK3, which the OEM will no longer manufacture after February.
The MK3.5 upgrade kit leverages a 32-bit embedded xBuddy mainboard to bring several of the MK4’s features and capabilities to MK3S and MK3S+ 3D printers.
The board will allow users to add a full-color LCD panel (which is included in the kit) to their machines, giving them access to print file preview, and “easier” configuration and navigation. It will also enable support for input shaping and pressure advance, which Prusa claims makes the MK3.5 work up to twice as fast as the MK3S+.
Additionally, MK3.5 printers can connect via Ethernet or Wi-Fi to Prusa Connect for remote printer monitoring, as well as other online networks. Prusa estimates it will take users two hours to install the kit, with a free assembly guide available on its website to walk them through the process.
The official launch of the MK3.5 also marks the end of life for the MK3 series of printers. Prusa will cease production of MK3S+ assembly kits on February 29, and only continue to sell assembled kits until stock runs out. However, spare parts for both machines will still be available from its warehouse.
