Revopoint has released an update for its Revo Scan 5 software that should make scanning on the MetroX 3D scanner faster and smoother.

The Revopoint MetroX was launched on Kickstarter last October, and features four scanning modes that use multi-line lasers and full-field light to capture different types of objects with “metrology-grade” accuracy of up to 0.03 mm. The device is now available for purchase on Revopoint’s website, where it’s currently on sale for $899 (discounted from an MSRP of $999).

With the update to Revo Scan 5 – aptly named Revo Scan 5 MetroX (V5.6.4) – the MetroX can now leverage a “GPU Acceleration Mode” to improve scanning speed, efficiency, and frame rates. An example shows scanning as faster by about 14 frames per second with GPU acceleration enabled.

Take note, however, that the mode is Windows-only, and as of now only supports NVIDIA RTX 30 and 40 Series GPUs.

Revopoint also says the update should result in better stability, in terms of object tracking and scanner responsiveness, so long as your computer meets minimum requirements, which are outlined on the company’s blog.
