A new Kickstarter campaign is pitching an automatic filament loader that changes your spool when one runs out.
The Infinity Flow S1, by Infinity Flow 3D Printing, has a basic-looking, AMS-ish design that features two side-by-side rollers into which users place spools of filament. It will be compatible with “most FDM 3D printers”, the campaign claims, the only requirements being a Bowden tube-to-extruder inlet and 1.75 mm filament.
Though filament runout is an option with multi-material systems like Bambu Lab’s AMS, using it with filaments of different kinds and color requires you to “trick” the system into thinking that you’re using the same material, but the Infinity Flow S1 appears to work indiscriminately. A simpler solution for short spools and long prints, should it work as intended. Users can also reload spools while their printers are printing, further upping the convenience factor.
The Infinity Flow S1 comes stock with rollers for 1 kg filament spools, although there’s the option to upgrade to 3 kg and 5 kg versions for an additional price. The same goes for adapter kits that enable Bowden tube-extruder inlet attachment, but as Infinity Flow 3D Printing points out, you can also often find them online for free, should you want to print your own.
Packages for the Infinity Flow S1 start at $148, which first deliveries estimated in December of this year. For more information and specs, check out the Infinity Flow S1’s Kickstarter campaign.
