A new Kickstarter is touting a bundle of STLs that allow users to create customizable, modular “sabers”.
If delivered, STL Fun Forge’s “Modular STL Sabers” campaign would provide more than 210 files that include saber heads, pommels, junctions, and middle parts, which can be combined any way you choose. There’s also room for wiring and LEDs to turn your regular saber into – you guessed it – a lightsaber.
Accessories are available in more expensive packages, such as storage boxes and stands. There are also a variety of stretch goals, including additional saber parts, a formidable-looking “chainsaber” attachment that gives off Gears of War vibes, and blade parts. The latter are already available for “free”, meaning any backer has immediate access to them.
Commercial licenses are on offer here as well, which makes things interesting for the more entrepreneurial-minded. In the right hands, we see these sabers doing well on the con circuit – and, of course, in online shops – especially if they are skillfully painted.
Pledges for Modular STL Sabers start at ~$32 for saber parts only, although it seems backers here will have to wait until June (rather than later this month, as with the pricier options) for file delivery.
Should you want to make use of accessories or stretch goal parts, you’ll have to make the slight jump up to a ~$38 package. Commercial licenses are understandably quite a bit more expensive, at ~$143 for a one-year and ~$274 for a lifetime.
