UltiMaker has an announcement early next week, it said by way of a teaser post to X.

“Expect faster print speeds, more possibilities, and the power to bring your ideas to life faster than ever” the Xeet says over a short video of a running print with “MakerBot / October 22-2024” embossed in a diagonal infill before transitioning to the back of a white 3D printer with a spool of filament spinning in a transparent material enclosure.

UltiMaker is the developer of the popular 3D printing slicer Cura, and 3D model repository Thingiverse, and is the manufacturer of many 3D printers; mostly for professional use, like the recent Factor 4. So, with a relatively wide product offering, that teaser could be a lot.

We know it’s something that’s supposed to bring “faster print speeds”. The company improved speeds for its S series of 3D printers last October with a Cura update that “increase[d] print speeds by up to double, while maintaining the S series’s notable print success rates of 95% or more.” The teaser video could be highlighting infill, but we’re skeptical we’d see slicer updates bringing speed increases worthy of this fanfare two years in a row. Perhaps more likely is a new 3D printer with unusual kinematics.

Whatever it is, we only have to wait until next Tuesday to find out.
