Just in time for the Bambu Lab store’s second-anniversary sale, the reveal of this community-developed “multi-plate automation add-on” for the A1 Mini looks like a prime way of putting your new 3D printing gear to work.
The add-on, demonstrated in video posts on the Bambu Lab forums, attaches to the A1 Mini’s frame, and seems to function similarly to a desktop 2D printer – minus the paper. You place build plates into a tray, which are then automatically loaded, printed on, and then pushed out the opposite end, just like printer paper.
In this way, users can print on multiple plates at once, using a single material per plate, for example, or a single part per plate to minimize crowding and drive overall print success. This would be an innovative (and potentially ideal) solution for those running print farms, or who are in the habit of printing large, overnight prints.
The project comes by way of Bambu Lab community forum user Dill, one of the co-developers of the JobOx, a similar-yet-different add-on for Original Prusa MK3S+ 3D printers, which enables “semi-continuous 3D printing” through a build plate-loaded magazine.
While there’s currently nothing concrete regarding a release date or pricing of the A1 Mini add-on, Dill does say that it will be “as affordable as a few spools of filament” and will come as a hardware kit plus printable files, all of which will be printable on an A1 Mini.
For now, you can read the full reveal thread on the Bambu Lab forum where there’s a bit more information – and which Dill suggests those interested in purchasing a kit should follow. Stay tuned.
