It seems like a new 3D printing Kickstarter campaign pops up every other week with the promise of innovative new features and functions. The latest to join this long list is from startup, Venturi 3D.

The company is promising “a new era of 3D printing” , with early bird specials of the company’s eponymous 3D printer asking for $999. The printer itself sounds novel, with a full lockable enclosure, multi-material capability (accepting four filaments) alongside brand name parts and components.
Another intriguing aspect of the proposed Venturi 3D printer is that it will ship with 1,000 ready-to-print models loaded on its internal storage. Split across ten categories, the models encompass such things as music, education, tools, toys and art.
Christopher Lane, the founder of Venturi 3D, explains the inspiration behind this printer by saying:
“We believe the consumer market has stagnated with cheap kits, potentially unsafe wiring and exposed hot surfaces. Beyond that, they have a very high learning curve to use. We’ve set out to radically re-define what a 3D printer can do and finally push the industry in a new direction… Our goal is to allow anyone to be able to push a button and print beautiful, useful objects.”

Currently, the campaign has 37 days left to raise its $180,000. At the time of writing, the tally stands at $7,160, thanks to 28 backers.
If the company reaches its funding goal, the plan is to not only offer the 1,000 pre-installed 3D models but to also release more every month.
The proposal is that Venturi 3D will curate and test a selection of models for its users, providing them with ready-to-print g-code without having to design or slice them themselves. Instead, the Venturi 3D team will design, slice and test the models in a “lab” environment.
Lane explains: “This lab environment allows for so much more potential than what currently exists in the market, where most users only have their own testing and methodology to refer to. Our research could lead to helping other manufacturers as we try to push the industry forward.”
The startup is trying to streamline the entire 3D printing process, lowering the entry point for those without the technical know how.
For example, partner companies which supply filament will include a QR code which updates the settings of the printer to an on-board SQL database. This is controlled by a 7″ Android Touchscreen and is simple to use.
Finally, the printer also includes hardware from well-known manufacturers, such as, DuetWifi, E3D, BondTech, Olsson Ruby and BuildTak.
