xTool has officially launched the xTool S1 – the laser cutter it says “rivals CO2 machines”, which the OEM teased earlier this week.

The S1, xTool says, is the first Class-1 safety-certified, enclosed 40W diode laser cutter, meaning “it’s eye-friendly and you can run it without wearing protective goggles”. The 40W module is also interchangeable and can be swapped for a 20W or 1064nm unit.

The machine operates at a 600 mm/s working speed. While it may not be the fastest on the market, xTool claims the S1 delivers the “best results at its speed”.

Perhaps most noteworthy here – other than the S1 being the “first” of its kind – is the S1’s previously teased new positioning method. Dubbed “twin-point positioning”, it forgoes a camera in favor of an algorithm that shows the laser’s position in real-time via the S1 software and results in “coordinate-system-like precision”. How this will play out in practice remains to be seen, but xTool claims it is “better than manual methods prone to human errors or camera systems susceptible to distortion”.

Additionally, the S1 arrives with autofocus, “smart” air assist, Lightburn compatibility, and a range of optional add-ons, such as a riser base – enabling automatic passthrough – and a rotary attachment, which is sold separately.

The xTool S1 is now available for $1,999. For full specs, or to place an order, check out the xTool S1’s product page.
