xTool has revealed the xTool S1 – a first Class-1 safety-certified, enclosed 40W diode laser cutter.
Class-1 lasers are considered safe, posing no risk of harm to the human eye or skin under normal operating conditions. They are often seen on diode laser cutters, but typically come at the cost of decreased performance. That’s not the case here, according to xTool, which claims the S1 “rivals” the performance of CO2-powered laser cutters. It will also be cheaper, xTool says, although there’s no word on what that price tag will be just yet.
xTool has told All3DP that the S1 will arrive pre-assembled and feature autofocus and a “new positioning method” that enables users to achieve improved precision “without relying on cameras”. It will also be compatible with curved surface carving and rotary engraving.
The move looks to be an attempt – xTool calls it a “pioneering solution”– to merge the power of CO2-powered laser cutters with the relative safety of diode machines. Should it deliver on its promises, there’s much to be excited about here. But, without full specs, it may be wise to temper your expectations for the time being. The teaser comes with a countdown to a livestream event on Wednesday, October 18th, where the system’s details will presumably be revealed.
For now, you can leave your email address with xTool for a $100 coupon for the machine on its product page.
