Ford will return to Formula 1 in 2026 as Red Bull’s technical partner for powertrains with 3D printed parts compliant with the sport's new technical regulations. Ford says it will print parts for the drive train that can't be made using traditional manufacturing. The company has already 3D printed about 1,000 parts for Red Bull. "Everything is aerospace level, every part is life or death," says Ford's powertrain engineering manager Christian Hertrich in a gripping new promotional video from Ford showcasing its use of metal laser powder bed fusion for critical parts.
