For a limited time, Aldi supermarkets in Australia will sell the Cocoon Create desktop 3D printer once again, but this time for just $299.
Next week, for Australians going on their weekly food shop at Aldi, they will be able to purchase a 3D printer along with their Vegemite. The discount supermarket chain is selling a 3D printer for just $299, which is $200 cheaper than the model they previously sold.
This printer, made by Australian manufacturer Cocoon Create, weighs just 7 kilograms and has dimensions of 325 x 240 x 380mm. However, as part of the company’s limited addition special buys campaign, the printer will only be around until November 8th. Additionally, if they run out sooner than that, they won’t be restocking. So, if you want one, you’ll have to rush to the middle section of your local Aldi to find the 3D printer starting on November 1st.
Interestingly, the company confirmed that this all-metal body 3D printer is essentially a rebrand of the Wanhao Duplicator i3 Mini. The printer supports polylactic acid (PLA) and wood as filament materials. You can also buy spools of filament from Aldi for $34.99 a piece.
Although many 3D printing enthusiasts have never heard of this brand or printer, there is a growing reputation for Cocoon Create. YouTuber Maker’s Muse reviewed the previous 3D printer released by Aldi and was surprised by the print quality. Watch it below:
The build volume of the printer is 120 x 135 x 100mm. Wanhao Duplicator i3 3D printers have a good reputation worldwide and this rather reliable and tinkerable machine might be worth adding to the grocery list if you’re in Australia next week.
When buying the printer from Aldi, you’ll also receive a download for Cura slicing software. After creating or downloading a 3D design, it’s a case of using a microSD card and printing away with this this fused filament fabrication (FFF) printer.
However, if you’re not located in Australia, no worries, we’ve got you covered. There are still a number of budget 3D printers to choose from on the cheaper end of the scale. Check out All3DP’s rundown of the 20 Best Cheap 3D Printers under $500/$1,000 for more information.
