Artist Nick Ervinck’s 3D printed work will be on display at the city of Blankenberge, Belgium until mid-September for GNI-RI jul2017 project.

If it comes to artists embracing 3D printing technology, Nick Ervinck comes to mind in an instant. His work connects with society and incorporates futuristic, yet organic shapes – pure 3D printed magnificence. This year, the busy artist will be exhibiting in Belgium (Anderlecht, Brugge, Blankenberge, and Mechelen), France (Les Matelles and Roussillon) and Japan (Tokyo), just to name a few (more info here).

If you’re a contemporary art fan, Blankenberg, Belgium, should be on your list of places to visit this summer. Ervinck is a Belgian artist and, until September 24th, his work will be on display in his home country. In fact, Ervinck and the city of Blankenberg are teaming up for the project ‘GNI-RI jul2017‘.

For this project, a large wall print will be on display on Kerkstraat’s casino. The print is a huge line drawing and was developed using 3D printing technology. It explores Ervinck’s interest in line mutation.

As well as this piece, a huge outdoor sculpture, called LUIZAERC (see below) will be on display in the city center. This will be shown in dialogue with ‘Grote Kerk’, Saint-Rochus Church, on Saint-Rochus Square.LUIZAERC is a piece which is “playing with the continuous metamorphosis of sculpture shedding into architecture”. The piece is on display on a column making it appear as though the 3D printed artwork is merging with the architecture.

What’s Special about Ervinck’s 3D Prints?

Ervinck is influenced by a range of inspiration from pop culture and architecture to futuristic technologies. The artist combines past and future by blending 3D printing with ancient architectural imagery.

As well as the two pieces on display in the city center, Ervinck will be displaying his new solo exhibition. This is being held at the ‘De Meridiaan’ exhibition space.

If you’re interested in finding out more and happen to be in Belgium before this summer ends, then there is the possibility of meeting and greeting the artist. The exhibition taking place at De Meridiaan, Casinoplein 9 will be on display from June 1st to September 24th. You can visit from Wednesday until Sunday between 14:00 and 17:00.
