This 3D printed Batman costume has 23 functioning gadgets, earning it a Guinness World Record for cosplay. Bat-Shark repellent, anyone?

An impressive 3D printed Batman outfit with 23 functioning gadgets has made its way into the Guinness World Record 2017 Gamers Edition.

The suit’s creator, special creature effects expert Julian Checkley, has won the world record for the most functional gadgets on a cosplay suit.

Gadgets are attached and concealed in the suit. They include a bat sign projector, smoke bombs, a grapnel gun and ‘bat tracker’, NBC (nuclear, bacterial, chemical) bat respirator, and an EMP stun gun.

Speaking about the suit, Checkley said:

“There were many long hours trying devising the gadgets and finding ways to store them on the suit. They are classic gadgets but also some are specific to Batman: Arkham Origins. I am immensely proud of my Guinness World Records title and to be part of the Gamer’s Edition is just the next level.”

How was the Batman suit made?

Checkley’s suit is based on Bruce Wayne’s outfit from the Batman: Arkham Origins video game. To achieve a similar result, he 3D printed, molded and then cast his suit in a flexible urethane rubber.

From here, Checkley worked on finalising the look. He trimmed and painted the parts of the suit before they were added to an undersuit which he had also specially designed.

This was applied to the bodycast — which was decorated with earthy colors– and the suit was finished. With pointy bat ears and all, Checkley stands at an impressive 208cm (6″10) tall.

Next, the 23 gadgets could be created and finalised. Checkley did most of the work himself, but for the 2000watt EMP Stun Gun, he worked with an electrical engineer.
