3D printer manufacturer BigRep and BASF, the largest chemical producer in the world, are forming a strategic alliance to speed up the wholesale introduction of 3D printing into industry.
BASF, the German chemical company, is moving into the 3D printing world. In August, the company launched a new subsidiary, BASF 3D Printing Solutions, as reported by All3DP. One of their first moves was to buy the filament company Innofil (All3DP reported).
Now they are taking the next step by forming a strategic alliance with BigRep. The Berlin-based manufacturer is known for the BigRep One, which provides FFF prints with a capacity of one cubic mete for professional and industrial use.
BigRep was launched just three and a half years ago. Now, with BASF, they will be “accelerating the wholesale introduction of additive manufacturing technologies into industrial applications.”
“Our goal is to offer the best additive manufacturing solutions to our customers with BigRep equipment and BASF industrial materials… Continuous innovation into new additive materials will help us support our customers to realize the full potential of additive manufacturing in their businesses,” said René Gurka, CEO of BigRep.
Once the partnership is finalized, BigRep will continue to work on advanced equipment and software solutions for 3D printing in digital manufacturing environments. Meanwhile, BASF will become the preferred industrial material and application development partner for the startup.
Those involved believe the companies will finalize the alliance within the next few weeks. This process will also involve discussing ways in which the companies can work together internationally.
“BASF and BigRep share a vision to bring 3D printing to production floors and workspaces of all sizes. Our common goal is to help our customers across industries to meet current and future needs with innovative solutions,” said Volker Hammes, Managing Director of the parent group BASF New Business GmbH.
Time will tell whether this partnership will help distribute innovative 3D printing applications and materials worldwide. Check out the BASF and BigRep websites to find out more.
