If you’re looking to add a little brilliance to your next 3D print, check out colorFabb’s soon-to-be-released filament: nGen_LUX.
The popular 3D printer filament producer colorFabb has announced the upcoming release of its sparkly new filament, nGen_LUX. Based on the highly successful nGen filament line, this material combines function and form in a way that is sure to razzle and dazzle.
Embodied in the keyword “Lux” are two primary ideas. The first is luxury, as 3D prints made from this material tend to shine like precious metals. At the same time, the lux is also the SI unit for illuminance, because light is what really makes this filament stand out.
Given the glimmering appearance, ideal application areas of nGen_LUX include packaging, cosmetics, and electronics housing.
Up until now, the filament has been found to successfully work with a number of the most popular 3D printers. The list includes the Prusa i3, the Lulzbot Mini, and the entire range of Ultimaker machines.
Essentially, if your printer works with nGen, as most with a heated bed do, it will work with nGen_LUX.
As with many of their other filaments, colorFabb’s goal with nGen_LUX was to make a filament that is unique compared to others available on the market.
The sparkly newcomer comes as an evolution of nGen, a co-polyester filament that launched 2 years ago. Making use of the Eastman Amphora AM3300 3D polymer, both boast good melt stability, making them easy to print with.
Yet with new light diffusion additives, nGen_LUX brings 3D printing to a new level. Thanks to diffuse reflection, any light shining on the material scatters in multiple directions, resulting in an impressive display.
As an additional feature, 3D prints made with the new filament look exactly like production-ready pieces, without the need for timely post-processing.
nGen_LUX is the first special filament based on nGen and the second co-polyester after XT-CF20, colorFabb’s carbon fibre-enforced filament.
Although nGen_LUX is not yet available for purchace, the new filament will be making its first appearances next week, at both the TCT Show in Birminham, UK, and then at the Kunststoffenbeurs in Veldhoven, NL. Needless to say, when it comes to printing with colorFabb materials, the future is looking quite bright.
