The design duo Hint Lab are creating unique and customizable jewelry designs using 3D printing and LEGO bricks.
LEGO lovers and trendsetters rejoice as Paris designer duo Hint Lab have recently launched their line of customizable jewelry using LEGO bricks. For the ultimate nostalgic experience or an extra special Christmas present this year, the collection of 3D printed LEGO rings and earrings brings the children’s toy back closer to an older audience.
The designs are all fully customizable which means consumers can swap out bricks depending on their mood during the day.
Remember mood rings? The 90s finger pieces that would automatically turn color according to your mood. Hint Lab’s new “Playful & Precious” collection remind us a little of those, only that you get to choose your own colors.
Hint Lab, made up of the product design duo Thomas and Allie, spent several years working abroad before returning to France and launching their company. According to the couple’s Etsy shop, Hint Lab emerged when they noticed just how much people loved LEGO.
“They can be found in nearly every home and come in a wonderful array of colors. What if we could magnify them, create jewelry that will make these little bricks as precious as diamonds. We never stop to experiment and try to come out with models that will embellish Lego Bricks as well as giving you the freedom to match their pretty colors with any of your outfit.”
Each piece comes as a set according to consumer selection and is crafted to order and handmade by the designers. The start-up offers four finishes including bronze, brass, sterling silver and gold.
Hint Lab came up with their creations by sketching them and then turning the designs into 3D models. When an order is placed, the team works with 3D printing service Shapeways to create the wax-based 3D print before casting the ring in metal. In addition, the designers are using more traditional jewelry casting methods to craft their designs.
The duo explained:
“We hope our rings can be a kind reminder to keep your inner-child run and roam free. Because after all, the most sophisticated people we know – inside they are all children.”
The pieces cost £64.29 or around $86 which includes free shipping. Customers can also contact Hint Lab to enquire about further customization.
