Talk of next generation home deco addition! The Equations Lamp designed by Oleg Kurtsev stands for just that. This 3D printed lamp has a flower design made up of parametric equations. Most lamps we’ve encountered are derived from geometric shapes, but not the Equations Lamp: It’s shape is organic. Kurtsev used a free software called Maxima to develop the equations for the lamp trunk. It took him several experiments to finalize the design to his content.

Oleg Kurtsev is a research engineer and software developer. Design is one of his hobbies where he can combine his professional skills (and topics such as topology, fractals and parametric curves) with design. Kurtsev’s aim is exploring mathematical topics that have never been used to describe design ideas.

The main focus being simplicity and symmetry, the Equations Lamp certainly looks great from several view points. The lamp is made from polyamide using laser sintering technology. It comes complete with lamp base, light and dimmer. You have the option of selecting between US or European plug. The Equations Lamp is priced at €149 (plus VAT).
