Want homemade waffles everyday? Formlabs does, and has deemed us worthy enough for its mouth watering “Breakfast Extensions” for the Form 2 3D printer.

UPDATE: As you probably guessed, this has been an April’s Fools Day Joke initiated by Formlabs. A tasty one.

How do you like your eggs in the morning? Forget the kiss, 3D printed eggs are the new thing. Formlabs is offering owners of the Form 2 3D printer the chance to make breakfast time more exciting.

The company, typically known for its SLA printers and resins, is launching a duo of ground-breaking Breakfast Extensions. Whether you prefer waffles or scrambled eggs, you can simply roll out of bed, hit a button and rest assured breakfast is on its way.

Formlabs offers the chance to “pair the power of your 3D printer’s optical engine” with their Pancake Batter Resin. By using photocaramelization, the 3D printer’s galvanometers guide the laser to create perfect pancakes every time. The upside of this? No more boring circular pancakes.

In addition they’re offering attachments for the Form 2 such as the “waffle-printing” build platform and the “EGGstension”. Using the Waffle Platform, you can be sure your delicious doughy grids will never burn again.

Formlabs explains in a press release: “Designed to streamline and automate your cooking process, the new extensions making it possible to achieve precise temperatures, perfectly time and cook each dish, and create beautiful, intricate breakfasts.”

Wondering how it works? The process of creating eggs is as simple as inserting a resin cartridge of Free-Range Eggs. The liquid eggs will then fill the resin tank. If you fancy fried eggs, simply choose sunny side up and the laser will do the work.

Alternatively, you can select the scramble mode. The Form 2 uses the laser’s heat and the company’s new wiper attachment to agitate the eggy goop into a nutritious breakfast. As well as this, Formlabs assure you that both the Egg Wiper and Resin are included in the EGGstension.

For a fuller breakfast, additions like bacon are possible with the Breakfast Print Cell. But some automation will be required between multiple 3D printers.

Formlabs adds: “Be on the lookout for our upcoming Lunch and Dinner extensions and cells, too!”
