Formlabs are a Massachusetts-based company that designs and manufactures desktop 3D printers. The company is well known for raising nearly $3 million in its Kickstarter campaign, which successfully launched the brand into the industry.

3. History

With a large following and an all-round great reputation across the industry, Formlabs produce slick, iconic SLA desktop machines in their trademark orange. Started out of MIT in 2011 by its three founders, the company delivers sophisticated fabrication tools into the creative hands of designers, engineers, and artists around the world. There’s even a documentation called Print the Legend on the starting phase of the company on Netflix.

In 2012, Formlabs publicly announced its first product, the Form 1 3D printer, in a Kickstarter campaign that raised a record- breaking $2.95 million in funding -making the Form 1 one of the most highly funded crowdfunding projects of all time. As a crowd-founded startup, they develop products with its users and community following in mind. This model has only gone on to secure further success for the company via the closing of further investment rounds and the release of more 3D printing products.
