Are you a cyclist? How do you stay safe when traffic and congested roads make it tough? One option: The Loud Mini Bicycle Horn
Being a cyclist isn’t always easy. Even good drivers can have a hard time seeing everything, and most cyclists have experienced at least one real scare. Loud Bicycle offered one solution that was successfully Kickstarted way back in 2013, a bike horn that’s easy to mount and also FREAKING LOUD.
When the team started out, they readily admit that they didn’t know what they were doing. Still, the self-proclaimed novices had a great campaign, used 3D printing for rapid prototyping, and ultimately delivered to their backers. And now they’ve expanded the range with a new product.
What’s so special about the Loud Mini? This is no normal “toot-toot” bike horn. The Loud Mini, and its predecessor the Loud Bicycle Horn, can play two separate tones. Together, these tones interact with the brain in a way that enables drivers to pinpoint exactly where the sound — and the concerned cyclist — is coming from.
“With two notes, you’re exciting more neurons,” says creator, Jonathan Lansey, “so your brain is like, ‘Whoa, something’s happening!’”
The Loud Mini works in all kinds of weather and temperatures down to 20°F (-6°C). Plus, it can be positioned to be easily activated with the thumb, making honking and braking simultaneously no problem.
Plus, Lansey intends to share some of the fun of designing, by releasing the 3D modeling files for the Mini’s removable front plate. That means users can print one in whatever color or pattern they want.
“I don’t like patents as much as I like innovating, that’s just the way I like to do things… It’s expensive! I’d rather buy more bike horns.”
The first Loud Bicycle Horn campaign raised $52,837 and the Loud Mini has raised over $27,900. Anyone who has had a close encounter with traffic will definitely appreciate the opportunity to be heard on the road. And it’s one more entrepreneurial endeavor made easier with the help of 3D printing!
