Inchvilles is a 3DS game with a twist. You customize your game character, order it as a 3D printed statue and then re-import it into the game.

3D printing and video games do have a lot in common. And, as All3DP reported, there are more and more crossovers between the two sectors. You know that you can have your favorite tank model from “World of Tanks” 3D printed to reside on your desk, or even print a game character from your PlayStation 4 in the near future. But what about these toys-to-live like “Skylanders”? Or the “Amiibo”-Series? Could there be 3D printed game figurines you finally can afford?

Well, Hungarian studio Moragami is taking a step in this direction. They have 3D printing plans for their new game “Inchvilles” by bringing a new kind of toys-to-life experience to Nintendo’s 3DS Shop.

The “Inchvilles” are game characters which are only an inch tall, hence the name. In this 3D action platformer, you collect all golden gems in a level – pretty straightforward so far. What’s unique is that players are allowed to design their in-game characters; and then order the 3D-printed version, which will be delivered to their doorstep within 10 days.

Inchville Game Characters: Like Skylanders for Nintendo 3DS

These figures themselves can be scanned into the game – it’s not quite sure how, but most likely by the use of a NFC chip or a visual code which can be picked up by the built-in 3DS camera. Moragami didn’t share any information yet, but they stressed that the figures will be interactive.

Inchvilles will be coming to smartphones, PC and Nintendo 3DS – maybe even to the new Nintendo Switch console. Tomorrow, they will launch their official Inchville website and will reveal more information; maybe also with a PC demo.

So, what do you think of this approach? Please feel free to add your comment at the end of the article.
