Kwambio, the on-demand manufacturing platform, is releasing its new opaque glass-based material called GS One. The ceramic material has an interesting range of features including durability and short turnover times. 

Kwambio, a startup with headquarters in NYC, is releasing a new opaque glass-based material for ceramic 3D printing. They’re calling it GS One and you can choose this unique material when 3D printing a design through the Kwambio website.

According to the company, the turnover for objects 3D printed with this binder-jetting material is five days or less. This is due to the fact that it requires no firing or glazing. However, prints do require a coat of paint. In fact, spray paint protects objects, making them more durable.

Wondering how Kwambio works? The company 3D prints your orders in your choice of ceramic, metal or GS One to a high quality. As All3DP previously reported, they manufacture bespoke 3D prints from a range of designers. The website explains:

“The KWAMBIO team of design experts work closely with artists and designers to create a product that is uniquely customizable, but also functional. Once we finalize the design, it is up to you to make the finishing touches on our website using our proprietary software of custom “filters” – much like Instagram – that can be applied to your object to create beautiful variations in form, size, material and finish.”

In fact, just last month, they revealed a brand-new ceramic 3D printer at CES.

Benefits of Choosing the New GS One Material

As well as having a short turnover time of just a few days, the GS One material also offers a unique texture which is rough and sandy but “definitely a pleasant feeling”.

Kwambio adds that the material is the perfect choice for any prints that are intricate. If you’ve been struggling to get the right shape using a ceramic material, GS One could be a good choice.

Thanks to no glazing, the 3D printed objects remain highly detailed. As well as this, if you need to ensure you print to exact dimensions, this material has a shrinkage of zero.

Kwambio suggests that if you’re planning on making molds, GS One could be a useful solution. It’s possible to print using the material and hand-polish the result. This post-processed print can then be used for slip casting.
