Anyone who has suffered from hair loss will be happy to hear that there is a 3D printed solution specifically aimed at those in need of some hairy assistance. 

Cesare Ragazzi Laboratories, an Italian company, have developed the CNC hair system which essentially works as a non-invasive hair transplant.

If you’re thinking of a wig, you’re on the right tracks – however, the CNC hair system is unlike most wigs as it is actually molded precisely to your scalp.

As well as this, it is also custom designed in order to match your natural hair in colour, texture, and even how it falls. The major benefit of this technology is that is actually stays in place and gives you the ability to shower, swim, curl and dye or even cut the hair.

How Does the CNC Hair System Work?

To begin with, a mold is taken of the client’s scalp which closely maps the areas which have been affected by hair loss.

This mold is then used to create a 3D model which is printed in a patented micro-thin, bio-polymer material, which creates a membrane or “second scalp”. This membrane is both antifungal and antibacterial, and adapts to changes in body temperature too.

To find the perfect colour and texture for the new hair, a sample is taken from the client and a match is found from CRL’s large supply of donated virgin hair – that which has never been processed or dyed.

A technician then meticulously sews this perfect hair match into the membrane, piece by piece, in order to replicate the hair’s natural direction of growth.

The last process is to attach the membrane to the scalp by using a special medical adhesive. After this, you’re good to go!

All you need – accordingly to the manufacturer – to do is visit the salon once a month for cleaning but apart from this, it is extremely low maintenance and a CNC hair treatment can actually last for years.
