Syqe Medical, the creator of the 3D printed medical cannabis inhaler, just received Nano Dimension’s Dragonfly 2020 electronics 3D printer.

In the past, we’ve seen 3D printing technology used to bridge the gap between stoner stereotypes and innovative products. But in Israel, the stigma that marijuana is a drug that’s only good for getting you high is fading fast. The Middle Eastern country is one of the global leaders in medical cannabis, and their 3D printing scene isn’t too shabby either.

In fact, the Israeli electronics 3D printing manufacturer Nano Dimension is now playing a major role in the local medical marijuana sector. The company recently supplied a DragonFly 2020 3D printer to the Tel Aviv-based medical cannabis startup Syqe Medical.

Syqe Medical: High On 3D Printing Technology

Syqe Medical will use the DragonFly 2020 to further the development of their medical cannabis inhalers. The electronics 3D printer will help speed up product development and bolster innovation.

While the startup will be among the first in the world to use Nano Dimension’s highly anticipated printer, Syqe Medical is also quite well-versed in 3D printing. In January, the company revealed their two 3D printed medical devices, the Syqe Inhaler and Syqe Inhaler Exo.

According to Syqe, 75% of the components used during the clinical trials for these two devices are 3D printed. Stratasys printers, including Objet30 Pro, Connex3, Objet Eden260v, and MakerBot Replicator 2, were used to prototype parts.

The basic model is designed for home use, while the latter is developed for the hospital setting. Each inhaler comes preloaded with 100-microgram cannabis cartridges, providing the patient with a precise dose of medicine.

In the case of Syqe Medical, the startup will likely use the electronics printer to advance the technology inside of the medical cannabis inhalers. The pocket-sized device includes thermal and flow controllers, lung interfacing, and wireless connectivity.

The DragonFly 2020 3D Printer: Buzzing Across Multiple Industries

Now a part of Nano Dimension’s beta program, Syqe Medical joins a growing list of lucky participants that have gotten their hands on a DragonFly 2020. Last year, the Nano Dimension delivered their first six 3D printers to beta companies. Partners include PHYTEC and an undisclosed top ten bank in the U.S.

In January, Nano Dimension announced it had successfully 3D printed electrical circuit boards, a first for the 3D printing industry. Not only was the company able to manufacture PCBs, they’ve also expressed confidence that 3D printed circuits are even better.

The Nano Dimension team believes that the DragonFly 2020 improves reliability by keeping electronic components safe from the external environment. It also protects PCBs from potential mechanical, temperature, corrosion damages, and eliminates the need for soldering.

So, as you can see, Syqe Medical is using 3D printing technology to create more than just an ordinary inhaler.

Now, with the DragonFly 2020 3D printer in tow, the startup can fine tune the inner workings of its medical marijuana device. Additionally, Syqe Medical will have the opportunity to show the world just what Nano Dimension’s flagship 3D printer is capable of.
