Maartje Dijkstra is a fashion designer inspired by technology and electronic music. Her latest piece, Optic Traces, is turning heads.

At GOGBOT 2017, an annual festival organized by artists, fashion designer Maartje Dijkstra presented her latest project. Since then, it has also been on display at Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven, too.

What’s so special about the design is that it brings together high fashion and technology. Dijkstra used a 3D printing pen to create surfaces, lines, and structures for the dress.

“The light-colored sculptural dress is built of white and light silver unique leather and finished with hand stitched silk and polyester wires and white manual 3D printed lines that contain traces of squared mirrored surfaces,” said Dijkstra.

It’s now been ten years since Dijkstra started her own high fashion label which blends couture with technology such as 3D printing. Her latest project follows a multitude of handcrafted, performance pieces. The pieces have names such as Obstruction, Braindrain, Surface Distortion and 3DDD.

However, her latest piece has the name Optic Traces. She explains that all of her designs are inspired by electronic music. The result is a range of pieces which impress on the runway and certainly turn heads.

Optic Traces Hits Dutch Design Week

Dijkstra’s latest design may be perfectly timed for Halloween. However, the dress is actually inspired by both electronic music and the Baroque period. This can be seen in the dark yet extravagant details on the garment.

“The many special grey blades that are covering the whole dress are printed in 3 layers, 2x white and 1x black, that together form an almost icy/frozen color effect. The grey printed Cristal’s in between the blades form traces of simmering light and will break the light into different eagles,” continues Dijkstra.

If you’re based in Eindhoven, get yourself to the Dutch Design Week which ends tomorrow to see the dress. Otherwise, check out Dijkstra’s website to learn more about her work.

She also occasionally asks for models by using her Facebook page – do you have what it takes to wear Optic Traces?
