Visitors to the Paisley Park museum were greeted with a surprise; Prince’s remains stored in a custom 3D printed urn.

Foreverence, a company that specializes in custom 3D printed urns, has shared more details on the urn they created for Prince.

The cremation urn is an artistic rendering of Paisley Park, the artist’s legendary recording studio and residence. Foreverence — which is based in Eden Prairie, Minnesota — worked closely with Prince’s family to create a memorial art-piece to house his remains.

According to People magazine, Foreverence CEO Pete Saari said:

“We are truly honored and humbled to work with Prince’s family to pay tribute to one of the greatest musical artists of our generation. We believe that everyone’s a legend to the people who love and miss them the most.”

The urn was first unveiled at a private memorial last August, and is a surprise attraction for visitors to the Paisley Park museum in Minneapolis.

It’s a fitting tribute to the musical genius who died on 21 April, a few days before his 58th birthday.

Prince is at Peace in Paisley Park

The artist’s sister and nephew, Tyka and President Nelson, collaborated with the company on an original concept that symbolized Prince’s home, recording studio, and sanctuary.

Saari was approached by the Prince estate to have a custom urn designed within two weeks of the reclusive musician’s death. Early ideas were a guitar in the shape of Prince’s famous “love” symbol, or a little red corvette.

In the end, the family presented their own idea, with a CAD model whipped up by President himself.

“Turns out President has some CAD design skills,” Saari explained to City Pages. “He had modeled a crude sketch, and it gave us a very good starting point.

Made of ceramic and glass and measuring 19 x 18 x 14 inches, the urn features several distinctive elements reflecting the artist’s personality.

Tyka Nelson chose seven iridescent crystals – representing the artist’s favorite number – to be part of the urn design. The urn opens up to reveal lighting and scale-model details from Paisley Park, including the main atrium, Prince’s purple Yamaha piano, and white ornamental doves.

Foreverence is growing a specialist niche in custom furneral urns for musical legends.

Together with Prince, other commissions include an Energy Dome hat urn for late DEVO cofounder Bob Casale, a replica of the Ace of Spades hat for Motörhead frontman Lemmy Kilmister, and a unique megaphone design for Stone Temple Pilots’ Scott Weiland.
