One week after the Paris attacks, Creative Director Samuel Bernier and Le FabShop issue a statement encouraging us to “keep celebrating what they hate”.
Le FabShop is based in Paris, and one of the most innovative design studios in the 3D printing ecosystem.
In response to the tragedy that occurred on their streets on November 13th, Le FabShop has shared the PARIS Lamp model to several 3D printing communities, including Thingiverse and MyMiniFactory. Creative Director Samuel Bernier made the following statement:
I live in Paris and I love this city. Yes, it’s beautiful, filled with impressive architecture, history and culture, but what I enjoy the most in Paris is the enthusiasm most citizen share for good food, music and “happy hours” in their favorite cafe. What happened last Friday, only a few meters from the bar I chose to celebrate the weekend with my friends, can’t be described. My way to fight these barbarian is to keep celebrating what they hate. History, liberty, art and love of beauty on earth.
This Lamp inspired by Gustave Eiffel’s most famous construction is a reminder that the city of light will always be the symbol of all these things, no matter what they do to it.
The model itself is not new, having been released as part of a larger collection in 2014, but previously it was exclusively sold on Cults3D. In light of recent events, however, Le FabShop took the decision to release the model for free.
Based on the texture and shape of the Eiffel tower, it becomes much more than just a lamp. It echoes one of the most widely recognized symbols in the world, but without being ostentatious or crass.
The lamp is printed in multiple parts without supports. The parts snap together, though glue may come in handy to secure it. Simply add the bulb, light socket, and the PARIS lamp is ready.
With nearly 10,000 views and over 1,700 downloads on Thingiverse alone, Makers all over the world have heeded the call and are busy making this model. One community member said: “This is an amazingly beautiful way of declaring your love of a wonderful city and country!”
