Why does Texas get all the 3D printed houses?

House 3D printing company Icon just broke ground on a project of twelve two-storey homes in Austin. What these houses lack in curb appeal is offset by promised faster construction and better insulation against the Texas heat. Prices start in the mid-$300s to $1M+ and four are already sold.

Now I’m a Polyfan
I don't know what the Polycam team was drinking when they came up with this launch video, but I want some.

Introducing the 3D scanning app's latest big update, Vision 25, the video touches all the bases; it's a sizzle reel, faux-90's televised lecture, and real-estate reality show all rolled into one, and worth sticking out the 17-minute runtime for a dose of sharp nose-exhaling mirth.

Dollhouse Printers
The Incredible Shrinking Machine.

Erik Patak shrinks industrial 3D printers to dollhouse size. The models are made to showcase machines at events or conferences without bringing the actual 1,000-pound printers. Patak's miniatures are full of intricate details, you can open the doors, remove bins, and even illuminate the models. And… they look incredibly cute.

Pellet Pioneers
Made in Germany, shipped to America.

You gotta love the enthusiasm of a start-up when it sells one of its industrial 3D printers these days. German 3D printer maker Aim3D, whose innovative printer can print with virtually any pellet-based material from plastics to metal to ceramic to recycled shreds, celebrated its first sale to the US last week in dramatic fashion.

Poll Result
Open-source 3D printing is alive and kicking!

Last week, we shared our thoughts on the state of open-source 3D printing and asked how many of you would be willing to purchase a high-quality closed-source 3D printer. We received over 600 responses. While closed-source printers are not a barrier for most, it was heartening to see the sizable percentage of readers who are devoted to supporting open-source projects and products. If taken as representative, the responses show that closed-source 3D printing doesn't necessarily mean the end of open-source principles, especially when a large minority of the community remains committed to them.

LPBF Is a Girl's Best Friend
I've always loved the Boltenstern 3D printed jewelry,

but when I got the chance to hold it in my own hands last week at the Inhorgenta jewelry show, I was even more impressed. 3D printed in precious metals using laser powder bed fusion, the stones are meticulously dropped in midway through the print and then the build completes around them. The company has sold more than 6,000 directly 3D printed pieces.
