Pinshape has launched a competition giving you the chance to win a Robo C2 by simply creating a design which works with electronics.

Yet another competition has been launched by the 3D printing community Pinshape, this time in collaboration with Adafruit, M3D, MatterHackers and Robo3D. It’s called Design for Electronics.

Lauren Watkins, Team Lead at Pinshape, explains the concept to ALL3DP:

“We’re excited to add a new element to this contests – electronics. We hope this gives designers more creative freedom to make things that can be brought to life. The 3D design community never fails to impress us with their outstanding work so we can’t wait to see what cool projects come out of this contest.”

You have just under a month to get your designs ready. The contest ends on 15 October 2016 at 23:59:59 PST.

For first prize, the lucky winner will receive a Robo C2 3D printer. This machine has recently been launched on Kickstarter and it has already smashed the $100,000 funding goal.

The printer is an update from the original Robo R1 which was launched in 2012. Upgrades include the ability to print in 20+ materials, a print speed of 250mm/s, built-in WiFi and a touch screen.

As well as the Robo C2 3D printer, the first prize winner will also receive a $200 Adafruit Gift Card, 1 Spool of MH PRO Filament and 1 Spool of Nylon X Filament.

If you place second, you’ll receive a Micro3D 3D printer and two spools of MH Pro filament.

If you land in third place, you’ll receive a crafty 3D printing pen from Matter Hackers.

Win a Robo C2 Before Anyone Else!

To enter, all you need to do is design something you think can be used with electronics, or could integrate with electronics. After finalising your project, simply upload it to Pinshape. On the upload form, be sure to check the “Submit this model to the Design for Electronics Contest” box.

To be eligible, your entry can’t have been previously used in a Pinshape contest, and it must comply with Pinshape’s content policy. It won’t cost you anything to enter the challenge, but entrants need to register with Pinshape before they can submit their design.

And if you have more than one design in mind, entrants can submit as many different ideas as they can come up with.

Judging the contest will be Noe and Pedro Ruiz from the Adafruit 3D Hangout Youtube show. Along with them will be; Robo3D CEO Braydon, and Explore Making from Pinshape.

The judges have a criterion which includes; 40 points for technical excellence and ease of printing, 20 points for design functionality and application, 20 points for design creativity and 20 points for presentation.

“We were really inspired by Adafruit’s projects for this contest,” says Watkins. “Their tutorials make the process much more approachable for those who might not have experience with electronics. We can’t wait to see what cool designs our community comes up with that could incorporate any sort of electronics or electronic device”
