Formlabs is celebrating the launch of their new Tough Resin with a prize contest giveaway. Enter your project for a chance to win!
Released last Tuesday, the new Formlabs ‘Tough Resin” is tough. How tough? It’s tougher than Chuck Norris in a bare-knuckle brawl with a grizzly bear. That’s how tough it is.
According to the official specs, the Tough Resin deftly straddles the balance between strength and elongation, allowing makers to print tough plastic parts on the Form 1+ 3D printer. Parts are reportedly less brittle and more resistant to impact, making the resin ideal for various engineering applications. However, as is standard procedure with stereo-lithography printing, the parts still require thorough postcure treatment to achieve final mechanical properties.
“Engineering and prototyping are a really important application of 3D printing. We’re excited to release our new Tough Resin because now Form 1+ users can create high resolution prints in a really durable, resilient material,” said Formlabs co-founder Max Lobovsky. “Developing new high-quality materials continues to be a really important focus for us. Every time we release a new material, we create new possibilities for every Form 1+ user and build a more compelling experience.”
But actions speak louder than words. Confident in the versatility and strength of their new product, Formlabs are hosting a contest, with deadlines for entry open until 7th July.
“We want to hear what you would use Tough Resin to create (pictures and videos encouraged),” runs the blurb. “We’ll choose three of the most creative/innovative/interesting answers and the winners will receive a liter of Tough Resin and a new resin tank. You could be one of the first people to try our newest material.”
The Tough Resin was also heralded with a special video featuring a 3D printed Rube Goldberg machine. The joke, of course, is that a Rube Goldberg machine is a ridiculously over-engineered contraption designed to perform a very simple task. You can see the short film embedded below.
