The machine tool and laser manufacturer TRUMPF has just launched its latest Laser Metal Fusion (LMF) 3D printing system: the TruPrint 5000.
This week, 3D printing companies from across the globe are gathering in Frankfurt for the highly anticipated formnext 2017 trade show. The additive manufacturing event includes everything from consumer printers to massive industrial machines, but the clear market trends seem to revolve around metal 3D printing systems.
Yesterday at formnext, the machine tool and laser manufacturer TRUMPF unveiled the TruPrint 5000. This Laser Metal Fusion (LMF) system uses three scanner-guided lasers, and is said to be the fastest machine on the metal 3D printing market.
According to TRUMPF, the new TruPrint 5000 reduces exposure time per job by a factor of three. The lasers are fitted with optics that are engineered to operate simultaneously anywhere in the printing chamber. The metal 3D printing system features a generous print area of 300 (D) x 400 (H).
TRUMPF’s latest additive manufacturing machine is designed for a variety of industries, including aerospace, tooling, and medical. There are a number of unique features that effectively streamline and automate the 3D printing process.
For starters, production is able to start as soon as the build cylinder is placed into the machine. This component has a zero point clamping system, making it easy to insert and adjust. The plate can also be pre-heated to 500 degrees Celsius, providing higher quality for jobs involving steel and titanium. Additionally, a new cylinder can be instantly swapped in once an object is finished, eliminating the time in between two different print jobs.
Automation seems to be the primary theme of TRUMPF’s latest developments. The manufacturer also showcased the integration of robotics into the additive manufacturing production line, which are used to move 3D printed parts and make the entire workflow more efficient. The company believes that its latest addition to the Laser Metal Fusion 3D printing system will position TRUMPF for success in the industry.
During formnext 2017, Peter Leibinger, TRUMPF CTO, stated:
“If the market for 3D printers continues to develop in line with current indications, then we see an opportunity for our company to achieve additional revenues of half a billion euros in a timescale of five to seven years. We want to gain a leading role in the market and secure a market share of around 20 percent in the medium term.”
