Ultimaker has unveiled two software platforms that will improve and extend the capabilities of their popular line of 3D printing machines.
One of the leading 3D printer manufacturers, Ultimaker is known for offering reliable and user-friendly hardware. Yet their latest announcement at the TCT show in Birmingham, UK, shows them diving a little deeper into the realm of software.
Don’t Miss:
So far, two platforms have been unveiled: Ultimaker Cura 3.0 and Cura Connect.
The next evolution of Cura follows version 2.7. Perhaps its most important feature, worthy of incrementing the number, is the ability to add plugins. Businesses will especially appreciate this, as it means seamless integration with leading design and engineering tools.
“We will continuously develop new applications for our 3D printers”
Cura Connect presents a way to effectively manage a network of Ultimaker machines from a single desktop computer. And as it executes on an Ultimaker 3, no server nor setup is required.
Example applications that can be integrated with Ultimaker Cura 3.0 include SolidWorks and Siemens NX. And through the development of custom plugins, businesses can create specific solutions tailored to their needs.
As with the current version, the updated platform will support a wide range of 3D printers. The list includes all Ultimaker machines, as well as the
Users can also expect an updated interface with more intuitive settings.
As an integrated print management platform, Cura Connect makes print-farming easy. It monitors print statuses, queues and assigns print jobs, and executes maintenance routines.
Looking at both software platforms, all of the above features are just the beginning. The company promises to release regular soft- and firmware updates, thereby continuing to grow the available 3D printing opportunities.
Siert Wijnia, founder of Ultimaker, comments:
“We will continuously develop new applications for our 3D printers, creating an even more integrated solution for our one million Cura users, including professional designers, engineers, researchers, and manufacturers.”
Ultimaker Cura 3.0 is due to release on the 17th of October, 2017, while Cura Connect will arrive on the 7th of November. In the meantime, stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks.
