Voxeljet announced that it’s signed a three-year contract with Tooling and Equipment International (TEI). Over this time they’ll supply TEI with 500,000 liters of 3D printed sand and 3D printers.
Voxeljet is a manufacturer and provider of industrial 3D printing systems and an on-demand parts service. The company has now secured a contract with Tooling and Equipment International (TEI), based in Livonia, Michigan.
TEI develops machined prototypes predominantly for automotive, aerospace and defense customers. The company is also the largestQuarzsand user in the USA. It uses this material for casting and to create molds and cores.
The plan is that TEI will take advantage of Voxeljet’s capabilities for 3D printing sand and, according to the agreement of the contract, will purchase over 500,000 liters of 3D printed sand in the next three years.
As well as this, TEI will install Voxeljet 3D printers at their facility. This will complement the equipment they already have, including heat treatment and 50 CNC machines.
“This is an outstanding opportunity for both companies to further capitalize on the benefits of large-scale 3D sand printing for engineered aluminum castings. With Voxeljet working alongside us to supply molds and cores, we will be able to compress lead times even further for our customers while also setting new records in terms of the size and weight of parts we can cast,” explains Oliver Johnson, President of TEI.
TEI provides customers with machined prototypes and low volume components in aluminum, iron, and steel. With Voxeljet’s 3D printing systems, TEI will be able to offer all phases of manufacturing from one source.
As a result, it makes sense for TEI to align itself with Voxeljet, one of the leading technology suppliers. The Voxeljet systems are ideal for industrial production enabling TEI to provide a more comprehensive service for customers.
Now, from the facility in Livonia, TEI will provide design, 3D sand printing, casting, heat treatment, machining, and inspection. TEI also hopes that Voxeljet’s 3D printing sand process will save both money and time.
Voxeljet is a German company. However, the 3D printed sand being sent to TEI’s Michigan facility will be from the American arm of the company.
“The 3D printing industry is at an inflection point, and this marks another milestone in our mission to push 3D printing into industrial production. We are very proud to support TEI’s growth strategy with our unique 3D printing technology,” David Tait, Managing Director of voxeljet America Inc adds.
